YouTube Abused is a site created to catalog cases of user-initiated abuse of YouTube's built in control features to effectively censor other users. Abuse methods include false flagging, fraudulent DMCA taketown requests, vote botting, and downrating and marking as spam other user's comments without justification. While we understand and respect YouTube's need to comply with the various copyright laws and provide means for users to moderate themselves to a degree, the current systems in place are far too easily exploited as a means of silencing people with differing or controversial opinions. Our goal is to work with in YouTube to make policy and procedure changes aimed to reduce abusive censorship, as well as increase public awareness of the issue. We believe a balance can be found between the legitimate need for flagging certain materials as inappropriate or as violating copyright and the protection of those voices who others want silenced for simply being controversial.
